BGP Litigation senior associate Denis Savin speaks to Interfax about the Federal Tax Service's use of the Panama Files as an additional source of information in disputes with companies

"The Panama Files are a good source of information for tax officials to analyze and identify unlawful tax-planning arrangements. But they can only point the way for subsequent tax control measures, as the information on the website does not have legal force," says Denis Savin, senior associate at BGP Litigation. In the dispute in question the tax authority has successfully alleged that the company obtained an unjustified tax benefit by utilizing the popular scheme of 'grey' imports made via a chain of suspect counterparties, and the reference to the Panama Files is facultative, he says".
